4 Essential HVAC Parts to Know

4 Essential HVAC Parts to KnowYour heating and cooling system is critically important for your comfort. Learning about the different parts that make up your HVAC system can allow you to monitor its performance, tackle basic maintenance like filter replacements, and recognize problems that need professional attention. Here are four essential HVAC parts you should know more about:

Blower Unit

The blower motor and fan situated inside your air handler cabinet is shared by the furnace and air conditioner, and it serves two purposes: it sends air across the evaporator coil to aid heat absorption during the cooling process, and it pushes conditioned air produced by the A/C or furnace out through the ductwork to the various rooms in your home. To keep it operating properly, the blower should be inspected, cleaned and lubricated twice a year during routine maintenance.

Air Conditioning Coils

Your home’s cooling system contains two coils joined by refrigerant lines to form a loop: the evaporator coil located in your air handler unit, and the condenser coil situated in the outdoor cabinet. Cold refrigerant flows through the evaporator and absorbs heat from your indoor air, and then travels out to the condenser coil where the heat gets released into the outdoor air. Both coils need regular inspections and cleanings to keep the heat transfer process efficient.

Duct System

The air ducts are the lungs of your HVAC system, and they serve a dual purpose: they deliver conditioned air produced your furnace or A/C, and pull stale air back to the equipment for re-heating or cooling. To prevent the loss of conditioned air, it’s essential that the ducts are kept in good condition and properly sealed and insulated.

Air Filter

Typically found in the indoor cabinet near the blower unit, your system’s air filter is designed to catch particles so they can’t damage sensitive components. Regular filter checks and replacements are vital, because airflow restrictions due to a clogged filter can affect the performance and energy efficiency of your entire HVAC system.
