When you have summer parties coming up this season, one of the most important factors to consider is how to keep everyone comfortable. If your parties fall on hot days or during heat waves, you’ll need to make sure that you’ll be able to keep your guests cool enough. Find out more about how to beat the heat this summer with your HVAC system and other means.
Keep Cooking to a Minimum
Whether you plan on preparing food inside or in an outdoor kitchen, keep cooking and baking to a minimum. This helps cut down on the amount of heat inside your home and in your yard during your party. Instead, think of dishes that don’t have to spend a lot of time in the oven or on the stove. If you’re grilling, move the grill farther away from the main outdoor area to reduce heat for your guests.
Use Ceiling Fans
If you have ceiling fans in your living room or in outdoor areas, such as a covered patio, turn them on during your party. These fans will blow air down toward your guests, which will help them feel cooler. If you don’t have ceiling fans, consider using portable fans inside or outside to circulate air.
Provide Shade
Make sure that guests outdoors have shady areas to sit in, such as under trees or on covered porches or patios. If these aren’t available, set up tables with umbrellas, so that your guests will still have shade. Consider keeping curtains, shades or blinds closed on sunny sides of the house to keep these areas of your home cooler if your guests will be indoors.
Schedule Maintenance
Having maintenance done on your HVAC system this summer before you start having gatherings helps ensure that your air conditioning operates with maximum efficiency. This helps you keep your cooling costs down before, during and after summer parties.
